Words of Wisdom From Geoff Bellman

My colleague Geoff Bellman has decades of experience working with leaders and teams, and I love his understated wisdom, his emphasis on the leader as learner, and the compassionate humanity of his perspective. In this brief video, he shares some gems about leadership, and I thought it was worth sharing.

Your turn: What do you think? What most struck you about what Geoff has to say about leadership?

I find it is quite true that leadership must be shared and demonstrated throughout the organization. Decision making at the higher level, a leadership element, can be a process to break down into sub-processes owned by all levels in the hierarchy.
Mr. Bellman stresses the humility as a neccessary leadership behaviour. I would add that assuming accountability for failures is also as important.

      Hi Kosmas,

Thanks for your comment! I completely agree that being accountable for failures is a critical trait of good leadership – and one that is, sadly, often missing. I always find it refreshing when a leader says, “I messed up,” or, “we messed up,” with no excuses or rationalizations. My trust in that person increases.
